The Amish Farm and House

Adolf Neuber built the center in 1955, who had the idea of building a location like this to teach people about the Amish faith and culture, which is sometimes strange to many. The American protestant community is notorious for keeping their lives and beliefs secret. Neuber, on the other hand, attempted to create the most accurate portrayal of Amish life in Lancaster by constructing the center on historic Amish fields and a home from 1805. Since 1955, tourists and tour groups have been able to see Amish life at The Amish Farm and House. The Amish Agricultural and House was the country’s first educational farm museum dedicated to the Amish way of life. The center explains why the Amish live the way they do and what they believe. It will give the visitors much greater understanding and regard for the Amish and their way of life and culture. Their house tours provide visitors an inside look at the Old Order Amish way of life. Their tour guides take you on a room-by-room tour of a genuine, centuries-old Amish farmhouse, providing a respectful and realistic peek into Amish lifestyle. Guests will discover how the Amish hold worship sessions in their homes (they don’t have churches) and how their faith influences other areas of their lives. Learn about Amish education and schools, as well as how their communities have adapted to contemporary culture. Expert tour guides will also discuss Amish dress styles and other unique aspects of the Amish way of life, as well as answer any questions you may have about the Amish way of life.  On a tour of their 15-acre farm, learn about other aspects of Amish life. A lime kiln, a bake oven, a summer kitchen, a smoke house, a milk house, a chicken house, a herb garden, a windmill with waterwheels, and a milking cow for the kids can all be found on their property. A variety of farm animals may be seen in their barn and pastures. Goats, pigs, turkeys, miniature horses, donkeys, steers, alpacas, and other animals are frequently seen, however they may change from year to year or season to season. The Amish Farm and House now offers goat yoga as well. Yoga with young goats is a great way to unwind. All programs are led by certified yoga instructors. This popular activity requires advance registration. At The Amish Farm and House, you’ll also discover a wood carving, a blacksmith, a rope maker, and other artists and dealers showcasing their wares. Free use of their picnic pavilion and picnic space is included with the entry. Visitors are invited to bring their own lunch or order takeout from a nearby restaurant that provides this service. With family or company, enjoy a nice, relaxed meal. Visit the Willow Lane One-Room Schoolhouse while touring The Amish Farm and House. This is the only one-room school in the world dedicated to giving tourists an inside look into Amish schooling. Learn what it’s like to attend an Amish school from a former Amish instructor. Inside, you’ll discover a functional gas stove and gas lighting, as well as artwork created by Amish youngsters.
