Clipper Magazine Stadium
Clipper Magazine Stadium is a baseball stadium in the Northwest Corridor neighborhood of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Lancaster Barnstormers, the city’s Atlantic League Professional Baseball (ALPB) team, call it home. On April 28, 2004, a groundbreaking ceremony took place, and Clipper Magazine Stadium was completed. On May 11, 2005, it held its inaugural regular-season baseball game, with the Barnstormers losing 4–3 to the Atlantic City Surf. The Clipper Magazine Stadium has 6,000 green chair-back seats split onto two floors by a 360-degree concourse. Luxury suites with professional catering, grass seating that increases the ballpark’s seating capacity to 7,500, and bleachers along the left-field wall are among the additional seating options. The Barnstormers sponsored their first annual celebrity softball game in 2012, which was hosted by LeSean McCoy, a Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro running back and Harrisburg native. The Eagles compete against professional football players from other NFL clubs in this competition. Brent Celek, Hugh Douglas, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Torrey Smith, Michael Vick, and Brian Westbrook were all on the Eagles’ 2012 roster. The New York Giants’ Victor Cruz, the Chicago Bears’ Devin Hester, the Carolina Panthers’ Cam Newton, the New York Giants’ Hakeem Nicks, the Baltimore Ravens’ Ray Rice, and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Wallace were among their opponents. A Kid’s Park featuring a birthday zone, a carousel, jungle gyms, a rock-climbing wall, and numerous inflatables is also available at the site. Youth may connect with the Barnstormers’ bovine mascot, Cylo, at Cylo’s Clubhouse. The Little Sluggers Dugout, located behind Section 13, is a covered facility for nursing moms with a toddler play area and a television. The local Subaru dealer sponsors an outdoor area with Bocce Ball, corn-hole, a life-size Jenga, shuffleboard, ping pong, giant checkers, and a dog kissing booth, as well as a barbershop corner. The Broken Bat Craft Beer Deck, located at the home-plate entrance, features a wide variety of Central Pennsylvania craft beer choices. The Barnstormers completed several upgrades at Clipper Magazine Stadium before the start of the 2013 Atlantic League season. The first was a new children’s playground with a foam-based protective floor along the third-base line. A remodeled picnic area with new tents and a synthetic-material deck instead of wood, a new right-field wall, landscaping beyond the outfield, and computerized irrigation controls were among the other enhancements. During the winter months, Clipper Magazine Stadium is turned into an outdoor public ice rink so that the Lancaster community may enjoy the stadium during the off-season. The right field section of the ballpark is transformed into an ice skating rink spanning 135 feet by 85 feet, with skate rental available; concessions provide ballpark cuisine as well as soup, coffee, and hot chocolate.
